Personally, I grew up reading romance novels without even realizing it. I loved my Meg Cabot books more than anything when I was in middle school. I read her Mediator series over and over again. Whenever there was a romantic storyline, I wanted the couple to end up together. In high school, I was angry at the end of The Great Gatsby when Jay and Daisy did not end up together. William Shakespeare was a constant source of disappointment for me. I knew he wrote everything from comedies to tragedies, but every single time one of his plays was assigned, I held out a smidgen of hope for a happily ever after.
